“I Can’t Fix the ‘E’ on My Typewriter, FTI and Unique Ability

I recently called one of my centres of influence, Dana Weinberger, co-founder of the Family Harmony Roadmap. We were talking about goal setting for 2025. She related a story about her brother’s goal of writing a book. She had heard about this goal many times. The latest rendition of the goal came with an excuse: “I can’t figure out how to fix the ‘E’ on my typewriter. It keeps getting stuck.”
In thinking about this story, I realized that her brother was suffering from ‘FTI Disease’, the Failure to Implement. It is likely that Dana’s brother may have been operating outside his area of Unique Ability (the essence of what you love to do and do best). Fixing the E key was a symptom of this. It’s someone else’s unique ability to repair the key. He needed a “Who not a How.”
There also may be parts of the book writing process that may not be in his bailiwick of unique abilities.
In setting my 2025 goals, I am putting more thought into the Who part of the execution.
Happy New Year!
