It’s the holiday Monday of Thanksgiving Weekend, and I just finished reading an article written by Barbara Danza titled “Journalling Practices to Enhance Your Life.” I had a flashback to 1986. In that year, I read my first book written by Anthony Robbins titled “Unlimited Power”. This book changed my course of action over the remainder of my life.

I am not 100% certain Robbins said this, but I would have heard it sometime in 1986; “If life is worth living, it’s worth writing about.” For now, I will give Mr. Robbins credit for it. I do know for sure that Robin Sharma more recently said, “If your life is worth thinking about, it is worth writing about.”

Wherever I heard it, I have been journalling since 1986, and it has worked out well.

Danza provided me clearer insights into the benefits of journalling.

  1. A place to think and record things I am grateful for.
  2. A place to record the special events in my life.
  3. A place to record my goals and measure my progress achieving those goals.
  4. A place to document my habits and think about their efficiency and effectiveness.
  5. A place to document my new ideas.
  6. A place to document my tasks for the next day.
  7. A place to document my favourite things in life.
  8. A place to articulate my core values and beliefs.
  9. A place to reflect.

So how does Dan Sullivan tie into all of this? He has a concept entitled “Thinking About Your Thinking.” A journal is a great place to “think about your thinking” and the 9 points above are a great outline. Journal to self-reflect. Journal to think about your “own thoughts.” Journal to grow.

Happy Journalling.
