Growing up, I was a big fan of everything Star Trek. I still am today, so I guess that I never really grew up. The transportation device (transporter) was particularly interesting. Spock would say “Fascinating”. It led me to think there are other transportation devices.

Story telling is one such device. In the book Influencer, the authors state that the past is really not real, just like the Star Trek future is not real. Our stories of the past get changed. They can be embellished, made more colourful, more arduous and more heroic. It is our interpretation of the past that we relate in our stories.

When we tell our stories about this past reality, we transport the listener to that time and relate our experience in it. We create the impression that it is real.
